Jordan Eberle Signed Team Canada Jersey IP

This was the last time we would get the chance to see Jordan Eberle play in the WHL or get to see him play for $16.50 instead of $50 at an Oilers game next year. The Saskatoon Blades played the Regina Pats last night a CUC. We arrived early to the rink to see what was going on and quickly went to our seats. We were stocked with pucks and I wore my Team Canada Junior Retro jersey, you know to have on hand. I was waiting for my wife as she bought some popcorn and noticed a Sutter walking towards me. My wife said I looked like a sheepdog as I turned my head and started following him. If you are any kind of a hockey freak or Canadian, you know a Sutter when you see one. I knew it was either Rich or Ron, again if you are hockey freak, you know what that means. I asked him to sign a Team Canada puck and he said, "Sure."
I thanked him and walked off, hmm, we never get skunked. The game began and we just hung out and watched. We live close to Saskatoon but ended up cheering for Regina. We figured out where the Pats would get on the bus so we knew we would have a few chances to get Eberle.

My name was called for something and I thought it was for a Blades signed jersey, stupid me...I ended up in a 'Mad Dash' with pucks for concert tickets, yah let's just say concert tickets.

The third period was coming to a close and I knew we had to get close to the Regina bench. My wife stood close and Eberle walked by twice. The Shaw cable guy was standing on the ice and Eberle was the first star, scoring two goals in the 3-2 victory over the Blades. We knew the game, Eberle would come out for the interview. Sure enough, he came out did his interview and came back to sign for us. My wife got a puck signed for a huge Eberle fan student of hers. He even personalized it. She got another puck signed for herself and I asked for the jersey to get signed. I mentioned that we both volunteered for the World Juniors and we not able to ask for autographs from the players. He smiled and signed the jersey, really taking his time. We both thanked him and headed for the doors. I ran into Jeff Odgers, a 12 year NHL veteran, working as a colour guy for Shaw cable. WE are from same area so I said who I was, remembering I have not seen him in 20 years, and asked about his brother. We chatted for a bit, introduced him to my wife. On the way out the door, there was a Blade standing siging for people. I walked up really not know who that was but thought why not? He signed on Lukas Sutter. I laughed to myself and asked him, "Any relation?"
He smiled and looked up at me, and without answering, I knew the answer. He smiled and said, "Rich is my dad."
We called it a successful night and headed home. Some Timmy's was a nice night cap for the 1hr drive home.

Autograph Karma, Believe It....

While waiting in line at the Olympic Team announcement the other day, people started chatting about Ray Bourque being in the crowd during the game. Someone got his Team Canada jersey signed on the logo. During the game that night, the camera found Bourque and showed him on the screen for a few seconds. Now, I have met Bourque, have an Aves jersey signed with an Aves puck, so I should not feel heartbroken. I knew he would be there at the USA games, which we were at, but felt disappointed. We got home the next day and I went to check the mail, I had a large envelope waiting for me, inside it...

It's been a slow week!

Breakfast with Ray Bourque--->Mission Success!

The breakfast was great. Good food, lots of speeches, and then Ray came out and spoke for about 30 mins. He told amazing stories of his early days with the Bruins, Terry O'Riley and his beginning number #29, yah that's right. He then spoke about his 2 years with the Avs and the Cup win in 2001. There were some great stories about Patrick Roy, Joe Sakic plus a rookie who left the ice early all the time. Roy said something to Ray and Bourque then spoke to the player. The player's reply was his back was really tight. Bourque said he was 40 years old, his whole body was sore. He told the young player, Sakic was still out taking extra practice, Blake was working on something and Roy was taking extra shots, all future Hall of Famers. The player stayed out, and never left early again. And he did not state names....LOL!

Breakfast with Ray Bourque, seriously...

On June 11 there will be a breakfast with Ray Bourque in town. He will then be at a local golf course (not playing) in support of a new pediatrics ambulance for our city. All money raised will be donated to MD Ambulance. I asked and they are really hoping he will agree to an autograph session, no commitment on that yet. I have my Avs' Bourque and 2 Pucks ready for the day. Took an EDO from work so what a great way to spend a June day. I am looking forward to this one, anyone know if he is an eager signer?

Signed Flames Pucks-Boyd and Primeau

This might go down in my books as the coolest catch yet. I was curious about the Calgary Flames Better Half puck sale in Calgary for the first home games of this years playoffs against Chicago. I emailed one of the sponsors and someone got back to me with a idea. She called the Flames and found out here was only 2 pucks left; Wayne Primeau and Dustin Boyd. She got back to me and asked if I wanted them. I was eager to get anything so I said sure. I asked how much for the pucks and she said I was to make a donation of my choice to a charity of my choice. I got the pucks today with a Flames Blaze book. I kept my end and donated $45 to the Canadian Cancer Society in a family member's name. Holly man, what a great deal and great cause!

Gerry Cheevers-A really cool surprise IP

Well, no takers in my contest. My wife told me go for a walk before the game, last year brought me face to face with Bryan Trottier, this year I walked up to the main area and saw a table with someone signing autographs. I was curious right away and walked over. Gerry Cheevers was sitting there signing. But there was a cost of $20 for small item and $50 for bulky. I don't really have an issue paying for that, if that is to help him make a living so be it. Others appeared not to have my opinion. I had $20 in my pocket so I asked if I could have this picture, he noticed these were actuall $25 and I said I would have to get the $20 picture of him in the net. Gerry's manager said they were nice guys so take the mask one. I asked if he could personalize it and he said sure. He told me to let it dry so the paint pen would not run. I walked back to my seat and my wife laughed and said, yikes who was up there? I showed the picture and we had a good laugh. I walked by again, and asked him something about Don Cherry, he laughed and said some kind of smart remark.
