2007-08 Between The Pipes Box Break

I was curious about a full box of the BTP and decided to give it a try.  Box plus tax costs $64 CAN so here's to hoping...The first pack brought not much as far as stars but young stars; Ryan Munce, Braden Holtby etc...The last card was Jaroslav Halak.   I pulled 1 Crease Cut jersey number, Marty Turco and a goaliegraph, Drew MacIntyre.  The subsets pulled were not great, Tyson Sexsmith and Al Montoya.  Nothing great but the curiosity is cured.  I did manage to pull most of the cards I need to complete the set, all 100 base cards.  I now need #54 and Patrick Roy (Goalie Greats #86 I think?) Rating Base Cards-A, Inserts->B- Memorabilia Cards->B

Drew had his moment of fame helping the Canucks when Luongo went down last year. Currently with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

Curtis McElhinney TTM Signed Quad City Flames BTP

This is Curtis's first NHL win against Edmonton last April, the 10th I believe.  And we were there, it was the last game of the year, and Kipper got the night off.  The Flames finally played well in front of Curtis so the win was well deserved. Curtis signed the card below for me TTM, took about 3 weeks.  Card was sent to the Calgary Flames. Awesome!

Card Show Today

While I attended University I had the best job, I sold hockey cards at local shows.  I made around $400-$500 week on average and got to do what I loved.  It was tough getting any kind of loan from the bank after explaining my job.  My autograph season is somewhat over now.  As stated in the opening of my blog, numerous NHL players come to our province during the off season.  With that and the summer charity events, we have had an abundance of opportunities.  Now the NHL season is back and in full gear, I must turn my attention to getting my fix of autographs through the mail and on hockey cards.  There was the first hockey card show today so I decided to see how things have changed.  I remember paying young kids to run around our shows and buy Lindros rookies for $5 bring them to us, and we would buy them for $7 and turn around selling them in minutes for $40. My how times have changed, from large hotel banquets rooms to senior centers on the wrong side of town.  There was only 10 dealers there, they were advertising 40.  There was lots to look at and I keep an eye out for any of the guys I have met in the last few years (Roloson, Stoll etc), Flames and current Islanders. I walked away spending a decent amount of money and 24 jersey cards, and 1 autograph.  Check them out in my Cardville, lots to look through.

Signed Wendel Clark Leafs Jersey and Pucks! Chaser Too...

Today was the first annual University of Saskatchewan Husky Hockey Dogs Off the Leash Luncheon. Master of Ceremonies was former NHL'er Kelly Chase and the guest speaker was Saskatchewan's own, Wendel Clark. I got Clark this summer on a bunch of stuff but hey, it's Wendel. He's our local boy who made good in the hockey world. He spoke for about 5 mins and then opened it up for questions. Chase said they both would stick around to sign autographs and I got ready. I watched where they would be and moved quickly when the program was over. I was by myself so there were no chances for my usual closeup pics. I got to Wendel in no time at all and I asked if he could personalize it, he said "Sure" and I spelled my name. He wrote 'Best Wishes', I thought that was cool, something more when he knows its for you. I saw other ask for two autographs so I asked for a puck too, not a problem and off I went. I got Kelly Chase on a puck on the way out, quick nothing much but a 'graph'. He did have a huge ring on, I thought for a second, he did not win a Cup but he did mention his junior team won a Championship in the US.

Theo Fleury Signed Cards

I just notice this today, have a look at both cards. Theo has been in the new lately and we just found out his book tour will miss Saskatchewan, jumping right over us to Manitoba. That really sucks but I wish Theo well in this next part of his life. I used to hang around with Teddy and played against Travis; both Theo's younger brothers. These two cards were signed one in person and one from Bossa Production last April in Calgary. No big deal eh? But, 89-90 card were signed April of 2009, 90 Upper Deck, signed in 1991. 18 years later Theo has almost the same signature. That's actually amazing considering today's players; Luke Schenn who scribbles a 'L' with #2 and on official items, full signature.

Jersey Updates, Trottier, Stoll and Doughty

I finally was able to finished these jerseys this past month. I got the Stoll and Doughty jerseys pressed on and the Trottier jersey I got Ken Morrow added along with Gerry Hart and then some rookies from their camp. I know what some might think, rookies with some Hall of Fame members, but I actually have 2 other Islander jerseys with these Hall members. I felt I lost the appeal of the jersey when Jimmy Mann signed it last year. He's a great guy but you know what I mean.

John Tavares Islander Socks Signed from RBK Photo Shoot

I really did not want these but ended up winning an auction from NHL.com from the MeiGray Group. It was for the Special Olympics in Ontario, Canada. Actually are nicer that I thought, so they can hang with his signed Islander jersey when it gets done next month. Check out the details here.
